Frank E. Murphy County Park Beach: General Description

Frank E. Murphy County Park Beach is a place my family and I love to visit, and it’s easy to see why. My kids can spend hours playing in the sand and splashing in the water. It’s always a joy to see their smiles and laughter as they explore the beach and create new memories.

Located on Green Bay

One of the things I love about this beach is that it’s located on Green Bay, which means the water is typically warmer than on the Lake Michigan side of Door County. This makes swimming and playing in the water much more enjoyable, especially for my younger kids who can get cold quickly.

Shady, Restful Spot

When I’m at the beach, I like to hang a hammock between the trees and relax with a good book. It’s the perfect spot to unwind and take in the beautiful scenery around me. Sometimes, my wife and I will pack a picnic lunch and spend the whole day at the beach, enjoying the sunshine and spending quality time together as a family.

Overall, Frank E. Murphy County Park Beach is a hidden gem in Door County. Its sandy beach, warm water, and beautiful surroundings make it an ideal destination for families and anyone who loves spending time outdoors. And with its proximity to Egg Harbor, there’s plenty to do and explore nearby, making it the perfect spot for a fun-filled day trip.

Frank E. Murphy County Park Beach has all the amenities my family and I need for a fun day at the beach.

Bathrooms and Changing Areas

There are bathrooms and changing areas nearby, which is great when you have little ones who need to take a break or use the facilities.

One of the highlights of the beach is the pier, which is perfect for jumping into the water. My kids love to run down the pier and jump into the water, and I enjoy watching them from the shore.

If you need a break from the sun, there’s a shelter nearby where you can cool off and relax in the shade. It also has plenty of trees, and it’s nice to set up under them to get out of the sun a little bit.

Recreational Equipment

The swing set is also a hit with my kids. We also really like the volleyball courts and bouncing a ball back and forth.

Picnic Tables

There are plenty of picnic tables scattered around for a picnic lunch. Which is handy because, there are no concessions available.

No Concessions or Rentals

It’s important to note that there are no rentals or concessions at the beach, so make sure to bring everything you need with you. But that’s part of the charm – it’s a quiet and peaceful spot, and you don’t have to worry about crowds or noise. However, if you need food, Egg Harbor has plenty of great restaurants.

Beach Safety

I always prioritize safety when I visit Frank E. Murphy County Park Beach. While it’s a beautiful and fun spot for families and friends to gather, it’s important to be aware of some safety concerns.

Swimming Safety

First, there is no lifeguard at the beach, so it’s essential to practice the buddy system. Keep an eye on each other and stay within a safe distance.

Sun Safety

It’s also important to be mindful of the sun’s rays and to apply sunscreen regularly to avoid sunburn and other skin damage.

Since the beach is on Green Bay, the water can be warmer than on the Lake Michigan side, but it’s still important to be aware of the risk of hypothermia, especially in early and late summer months. Make sure to bring a towel or a blanket to stay warm after getting out of the water.

Water Quality Safety

Lastly, it’s always a good idea to check the Wisconsin DNR’s water quality beach advisory map before heading to the beach to ensure that the water is safe for swimming. While the beach is typically clean and safe for swimming, it’s always better to err on the side of caution.

I’m happy to tell you that visiting Frank E. Murphy County Park Beach is completely free! However, there may be some associated costs for a day at the beach. For example, you may want to bring your own snacks or pack a picnic lunch, which could cost some money. Additionally, if you don’t have your own beach gear, you may need to purchase or rent items like beach towels, chairs, or umbrellas. Lastly, it’s always a good idea to check the weather before heading to the beach and bring appropriate clothing or gear, such as sunscreen or hats, which could also come with a cost.
