Experience the Heart of the Christian Faith: Saint Peter’s Lutheran Church in Forestville Invites Community to Holy Week and Easter Services

As spring begins to take hold across the Door Peninsula, Saint Peter’s Lutheran Church in Forestville is preparing to observe the most sacred and meaningful time in the Christian calendar: Holy Week and Easter. In a world often filled with distraction, this week-long journey through the Passion, Death, and Resurrection of Jesus Christ offers an invitation to slow down, reflect, and rediscover the heart of the Gospel message.

“Holy Week is the most important week for the Christian church,” says Pastor Christopher Jackson, who serves as the congregation’s spiritual leader. “During this week, we recall the greatest act of love ever done—the death of Jesus Christ—and we celebrate the great promise His Resurrection has for us: victory over sin and death.”

All services will be held at Saint Peter’s Lutheran Church, located at 316 W. Main Street in Forestville, and the community is warmly invited to attend. Services are open to the public and accessible to all, with free parking, ample street parking, and full wheelchair accessibility.

A Week of Deep Meaning and Community Worship

Palm Sunday – April 13 at 10:00 AM
Holy Week begins with Palm Sunday, marking Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem. Children will participate in a joyful Palm Procession, bringing to life the festive shouts of “Hosanna!” that greeted Christ as He entered the city. This service sets the tone for the days to come: rejoicing that is soon tempered by the events of Christ’s Passion.

Maundy Thursday – April 17 at 7:30 PM
Thursday’s service commemorates Jesus’ Last Supper with His disciples and the institution of Holy Communion. The service concludes with a moving tradition unique to many Lutheran churches: the stripping of the chancel, symbolizing Jesus’ betrayal and arrest. As Psalm 22 is chanted, the altar is solemnly cleared, leaving the sanctuary bare and somber in anticipation of Good Friday.

Good Friday – April 18 at 7:30 PM
This service, conducted bilingually in English and Spanish, is one of the most reflective of the year. The full Passion narrative is read aloud, drawing the congregation into the depths of Christ’s suffering and the immense love that led Him to the cross. This is not a service of despair, but one of solemn hope—rooted in the knowledge that the story does not end at the tomb.

Easter Sunday – April 20 at 10:00 AM
On Easter morning, the sanctuary will ring with joy as the congregation proclaims, “Christ is risen!” This service celebrates the Resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, the foundation of Christian faith and the source of eternal hope. Through Scripture, preaching, and song, worshipers will rejoice in the good news: the tomb is empty, and Jesus lives.

Pastor Jackson adds, “As the pastor of Saint Peter’s Lutheran Church, I personally invite you to attend our Holy Week services. Whether you are a longtime member of the church or simply looking for a place to reflect and be renewed, we welcome you to join us.”
