Wickman House

One of Door County’s most remote restaurants is also one of its best. The Wickman House has limited the breadth of its menu in order to maximize its depth. The ingredients of each menu item have been carefully selected and sourced for agricultural sustainability, and the flavors are crafted for complex yet appealing savor.

The setting of the Wickman House is as enticing as its menu. Located at a rambling old inn and offering outdoor seating, this restaurant exudes the timeless otherworldliness of Ellison Bay.

While the Wickman House is as far as one can get from major urban hubs in the Lower 48, it has received attention from food writers in some of the nation’s largest cities. The New York Times, Chicago Tribune, and the Wall Street Journal have all written praises of this Ellison Bay restaurant. It has also won several prestigious awards and secured quite a few nominations for other awards.

Mink River Basin

Mink River Basin is an unpretentious sports bar and grill slinging pub food. This is not an insult.

While this restaurant is far different than Wickman House, sometimes what one really craves is a burger in a place you can relax a little bit.

Mink River Basin is housed in a classic old building reminiscent of a Greek temple. It’s almost as if this is a shrine commemorating the Wisconsin bar and grill.

Hügel Haus

The Hügel Haus calls itself Door County’s “wurst bar,” as a self-deprecating nod to the German fare they offer.

Attached to the Hillside Inn, Hügel Haus is unassuming on the outside but has a unique interior. It’s worth coming in to see it!

Patrons enjoy the German food and also the ample beer selection.

The Shoreline

The Shoreline is the last stop before Washington Island in Gills Rock, near Ellison Bay. The peninsula’s restaurant scene goes out with a bang here, with a restaurant that boasts a view as alluring as its food.

Water views are surprisingly rare at Door County restaurants, but The Shoreline has a great one. This alone is worth dining at The Shoreline.

However, the food is quite good as well. With an emphasis on Great Lakes whitefish, walleye, and perch, the food reflects The Shoreline’s locale. It is well-prepared and enticingly presented.

Brew Coffeehouse

Everybody loves coffee, sure. But, there’s something about northern climes that makes coffee all the more appealing. The folks on Door County’s Washington Island love coffee so much that they erected a statue in its honor!

Ellison Bay isn’t quite as far as Washington Island, but coffee nonetheless tastes great here, and Brew Coffeehouse has your fix.

In addition to coffee, Brew serves sweet treats and warm breakfast sandwiches in the morning.
