A Wonderful Wisconsin Wilderness Weekend Itinerary

The Badger State is one of the most stunning parts of the US and offers everything you could ever imagine. From camping to authentic American food, there’s a lot you can miss if you don’t try to make the most of your next wonderful Wisconsin wilderness weekend away!

Outdoor Adventures and Relaxation

From Door County and into Central WI, there are tons of things to do that offer equal parts outdoor adventure and relaxation. There are scenic vistas and lakes galore for adults to take in and many activities for the children to deplete their energy and sleep at night! Heaven’s Up North campground near Lakewood, Wisconsin, is a perfect example. All you need to do is turn up, settle in, and explore the surrounding amenities of any resort or grounds you visit.

The Great River Road

One of the most visited places in WI is the Great River Road. This stunning stretch covers a large enough area to act as a vacation all by itself. The many close trails are excellent for hiking and biking with the kids. However, you can also hop over to Trempealeau Bay if you are more of a duckling type who enjoys water-based adventures like kayaking and canoeing. For a more relaxed time outdoors, there’s the Alma Nature Center for birds and Mississippi River fishing.

Wisconsin Wilderness Weekend Park Exploration

There are indoor adventure parks for tons of fun, but can you beat nature? You might begin with the stunning Devil’s Lake State Park, which attracts over 2.4 million visitors a year to its 500-foot bluffs. Do you like waterfalls? Of course, you do! Willow River State Park has a 200-foot cascade that can’t be missed. If you enjoy seeing animals in their natural habitat, then visit Governor Dodge State Park for deer, wild turkeys, foxes, muskrats, and, of course, beaver.

Traditional Family Adventures

If you’re visiting Wisconsin with the kids, there are tons of things that warrant their own post. For simplicity’s sake, let’s keep it to three of the best family adventures you can get done on a weekend in The Beaver State. Baraboo is home to Circus World, which kind of speaks for itself. The prices are reasonable, and it’s open from May to August. You can also visit the Green Bay Packers and take in a football game with the kids or visit Madison Children’s Museum.

Food, Drink, and Dining Experiences

Every state has its own delights, and WI is no different. Wisconsin has a proud German heritage that shines through in its food, making it famous for Bratwurst and beer! But there’s more. You must try the state’s famous frozen custard, which is like no other you can buy anywhere else. Of course, there are many great restaurants. Some of the best restaurants you must visit in Wisconsin include Muse at Sentry, Williams’s Pine Gables Supper Club, and Cafe Manna.

Summary

There are many outdoor adventure grounds to visit on a Wisconsin wilderness weekend. Of course, with 59 State Parks, there’s a lot to choose from for some inspiration from nature. If you want some unique food and drink, then pick up some frozen custard with brats and beer!
